The Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, best known as Convention 108, is the only international treaty safeguarding the right to data protection. Today Convention 108 counts 53 Parties – European, Latin American and African States. While its core principles have stood the test of time it was considered necessary to modernise this landmark instrument to address challenges resulting from the use of new technologies and to strengthen its effective implementation. Adopted this year after seven years of work, the modernised Convention, referred to as “Convention 108 +” provides a robust and flexible multilateral legal framework with effective safeguards, facilitating cooperation between its members and allowing countries from all regions of the world to develop together new policies in the field. Join us to learn more about this new text, its value and benefits and how data protection actors see it.
Come and find out what in the Global data protection convention is important for you, if not all!
